I don’t think James “gets” this book yet, but he does enjoy the pictures. Ramon’s older brother taunts him that he can’t draw, but once Ramon realizes the enjoyment that his drawings have been giving his younger sister Marisol, he decides it’s OK for his art to be “ish” (as in “tree-ish,” “boat-ish” and “fish-ish”), rather than picture perfect. So yes, this book has a moral! But the watercolors are very nice. Giggle factor: only if your kid wants to laugh at Ramon’s drawings (not recommended). Adult enjoyment: if you like art. Illustrations: five jelly jars, very similar to another lovely book by Peter Reynolds, The Dot.
