Little Boy

This is one of those unusual books that seems endlessly endearing not just to parents but to the little boys to whom they read this book. Someday, by the same author, Alison McGhee, causes me to burst into tears but leaves James cold. Little Boy, by contrast, is endlessly captivating for James with its litany of precious objects: “your starship pajamas, that story about llamas” as well as “a yellow cup, a serenade to wake you up.” Giggle factor: yes, if your kid thinks a dog dressed as a pirate is amusing. Adult enjoyment: depends on how nostalgic you are. Illustrations: four jelly jars.
