Call Me Gorgeous!

Not only is Gorgeous a fantastical mix of odds and ends such as “a toucan’s beak, a flamingo’s neck, and a rooster’s feet,” he (or she?) also turns out to be quite genuinely gorgeous. This book is a celebration of some of the animal kingdom’s most strange and beautiful features in splashy collage and colored pencil illustrations that make it look like Giles and Alexandra Milton have, quite literally, raided the paint box. Reading tip: inspect your toddler to see if he has bat wings, frog eyes, crocodile teeth, or any other attributes of Gorgeous. Throw peanuts at anyone who complains about the book’s lack of substance. (Yes, there are children’s book reviewers out there who thought the storyline was too thin.) Giggle factor: high. Adult enjoyment: if you like silly, arty books. Illustrations: five jelly jars.
