Rough & Tough Diggers & Dumpers

This was James’ favorite truck book for the longest time. The brightly colored, detailed illustrations of a forklift, dump truck, bulldozer, and backhoe loader come complete with textured touch pads, fact-packed sidebars, and detail drawings that are good for matching games. As his third birthday approaches, James is “reading” this book less and less, but for about two years, James could spend over half an hour inspecting its pages. Courtesy of this book, “caterpillar tracks” was one of his first compound words, as was “stabilizer foot.” There are a LOT of truck books out there, but this one manages to be both visually pleasing and genuinely informative. Giggle factor: not applicable, but the touch pads go over well. Adult enjoyment: I like it and I really couldn’t care less about trucks. Illustrations: three jelly jars.
