The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs

. . . by the Wolf, of course. In Jon Scieska and Lane Smith‘s version, it turns out that the Big Bad Wolf just happened to have a cold as he went house to house in search of a cup of sugar to make a cake for his granny. All that huffing and puffing? Total accident. And the pigs? “It seemed like a shame to leave a perfectly good ham dinner lying there in the straw. So I ate it up.” What else would you expect a wolf to do? But the newspaper reporters “figured a sick guy looking for a cup of sugar didn’t sound very exciting. So they jazzed up the story… and made me the Big Bad Wolf.” Giggle factor: well, I was rolling on the ground. This is definitely funnier from an adult perspective, but James likes it too. Adult enjoyment: probably higher than the child. Illustrations: four jelly jars. The newsprint illustrations are particularly good. See also David Weisner’s Three Little Pigs.
