Zen Ghosts

By the same illustrator as City Dog, Country Frog, Zen Ghosts is the third installment in John Muth‘s award-winning series about the panda Stillwater. From the perspective of a three year old (namely James), Zen Ghosts also seems to be the most accessible of Muth’s Zen series, in that the story focuses on a combination of common Halloween rituals and the retelling of a traditional Japanese ghost story. Add the luminous watercolor illustrations to the mix, and this is one of the best books about Halloween that we’ve found. Giggle factor: not applicable; slightly spooky instead. Adult enjoyment: likely. Illustrations: five jelly jars.
