We All Went on Safari

By the same author as We’re Riding on a Caravan, Laurie Krebs’ We All Went on Safari is a wonderful book about both counting and Kenya. We’ve been reading this book with James for nearly three years now, so the book clearly has staying power, with different aspects of the adventure appealing at different ages. Publishers Weekly: “Graceful watercolors of Maasai characters moving through the grasslands illuminate We All Went on Safari: A Counting Journey Through Tanzania… Rhyming text introduces different animals, from one leopard to 10 elephants. Numbers are also given in Swahili, along with a pronunciation guide; endnotes supply facts about the Maasai and Tanzania.” We’ve only recently gotten to these last bits. Like all Krebs’ books, this one is meant to grow with the child and to be used in classrooms. Giggle factor: not applicable. Adult enjoyment: likely, especially if you enjoy travel. Illustrations: four jelly jars. To see a preview on Google Books, click here.
